[DAY 5] 2026 ¡Vamos, Brasil!
A paz do Senhor, irmãos e irmãs da Igreja Saenuri! (Ah pahz doo sen-yor, eer-mowngs ee eer-mahs dah ee-gray-jah Saenuri! Ees-peh-roo sin-seh-rah-men-chee key ah pahz jee day-oos ees-teh-jah kohng voh-sess.) Greetings of the Lord's peace, Saenuri Church brothers and sisters! I sincerely hope that the peace of God is with you all. Time has already flown by, and our final day in the Amazon has dawned. Through morning QT, prayer, and sharing, we united our hearts before God. We earnestly prayed that the one Holy Spirit would dwell and work within us, that we would not "underestimate" the power of Jesus Christ's name, and that as we boldly proclaim it in faith, the miracles of Jesus shown in the Bible would be fulfilled here in Brazil today. We prayed for the grace that the souls in this land would witness the living and working God. With these earnest prayers, we are heading out for street evangelism today. It feels like we just arrived yesterday, but realizing we are already halfway through our short-term mission makes me wish time would slow down just a little bit. The past few days have left us with nothing but pure gratitude for God's immense grace—guiding and protecting our every step, being with us in every moment, and showing us His work. Now, carrying a heart full of excitement and anticipation for the works and promises God will reveal and fulfill in our remaining schedule, we take our steps toward the ministry site of Day 5! Although we felt a lot of sadness knowing this is our last ministry in the riverside village, the area we visited today had a larger population than the village we evangelized in yesterday. With our hearts pounding at the thought of meeting even more souls to share the gospel with, we boarded the boat—the iconic mode of transportation in the riverside villages!ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 막간을 이용한 사랑스럽고 귀여운 우리의 막내 은숙자매의 하와이안 댄스타임~Taking advantage of a quick break, our lovely and cute youngest member, Sister Eunsuk, having a Hawaiian dance time~ hehe.' Doo-mok looking very pleased after achieving quite an impressive success with an acrostic poem using the word "Amazon" (Ah-mah-zon), lol. If anyone is curious about Doo-mok's acrostic poem, please check out the Amazon short-term mission report video! Haha. 오늘 저녁이면 떠날, 하나님의 아름다운 창조물 아마존을 눈과 마음에 담으며 감사가 넘치는 시간!Time to admire the beautiful natural scenery of the Amazon on our way to the street evangelism village! A time overflowing with gratitude as we capture God's beautiful creation, the Amazon—which we will be leaving by tonight—in our eyes and hearts! Flowing along the river and taking a short rest under the Amazon sun, we finally arrived at the village. After arriving at Purupuru village for our street evangelism ministry, we took time to pray together for this village. We prayed in the name of Jesus, hoping to meet God's children who need the gospel, and that when the gospel is proclaimed, there would be the grace of accepting Jesus as their Lord of salvation. For those who have already accepted the Lord as their Savior, we prayed that the moving and grace of the Holy Spirit would be added to them, and that they would be firmly rebuilt as worshipers who rise up to worship God.3-4인 1조로 흩어져 마을 곳곳을 향해 나아갑니다!We scattered in groups of 3 or 4 and headed out all across the village! The time and place for the gospel to be shared are not bound by realistic circumstances. Whether driving, walking down the street, on the way to grab lunch, living out just another ordinary day, the whole family coming out to prepare freshly caught fish in the yard, or even if there is a language barrier—the gospel is proclaimed. Because if we simply obey God's prepared plan and step into that place, the Holy Spirit will guide all the rest. To those who obey, God grants the grace to witness His amazing works and miracles, allowing them to fully enjoy the grace of His calling. There were various testimonies during today's street evangelism. A person who wanted to kneel and pray together with those who came to share the gospel; those who had already accepted the Lord as their Savior, proclaiming the gospel with us and shouting "Amen"; people who remembered the brothers and sisters from the street evangelism a year ago and called them by their names; and a woman who wasn't a Christian but read the gospel message along with us and prayed the prayer of acceptance out loud.
We pray that the seeds of the gospel planted today, and the moving of the Holy Spirit given through our encounters, will be deeply planted in the lives of the souls we met today. Even if we don't see the fruits of the gospel right before our eyes today, we trust in the faithfulness of God, who waters and brings forth fruit when we obey His calling and plant the seeds. We hope to live lives as those who listen to and obey God's voice speaking to us today, and we desire to continually seek God's heart and listen to His voice throughout the rest of our mission schedule. Also, after the mission trip is over, we pray that we will be used as the Lord's workers, planting gospel seeds at God's allowed and prepared timing in the respective mission fields we return to. After finishing street evangelism, we returned to the church (our lodging), had lunch, and prepared to leave for Manaus. It was our last supper in the Amazon!
As I've mentioned ad nauseam in the previous mission journals, the food at the riverside church was incredibly delicious (especially the grilled meat, which was overwhelmingly good). Since this was our final meal in the Amazon for this short-term mission, everyone felt very sad but ate deliciously with grateful hearts—most of us having at least two plates, haha. I will truly never forget this taste! After finishing our meal, we packed our belongings, cleaned the sanctuary we used as our lodging, and officially got ready to depart. We expressed our gratitude to the pastors of Igreja Assembleia de Deus de Altaz Mirim in the riverside village who hosted our Saenuri short-term mission team, and we had a time of blessing them through prayer. The pastors also shared words of thanks and encouragement with the short-term mission team, saying that the local church members received so much grace. We thank God for allowing this opportunity, and we hope to continue this partnership connected as brothers and sisters in Christ, interceding for one another. Taking a group photo with the pastors,우리의 식사요정들, 최고의 주방 스태프들과도 함께 사진을 찍었습니다. And we also took photos with our meal fairies, the best kitchen staff. It was so delicious! Gaining strength from the food you prepared with such hard work, we will wrap up our mission schedule well as we leave! Thank you all so much! We loaded all our luggage and got back on the boat. Carefully separating and stacking the group luggage and personal luggage, we set off! I wonder how long it had been since we departed? While the boat was moving, it brushed against some dead leaves holding an anthill, causing ants to fall into the boat and creating quite a commotion, haha. But fortunately, thanks to the experienced response of a Dongsan Church sister combined with bug spray, we were able to suppress the ants quickly, lol. After yesterday's ant incident, just seeing an ant gives me PTSD... lol. Such a weak person I am. On our way out of the Amazon heading to Manaus, we had a time of praise and worship together. The God who shows mercy when we come before Him, kneel, and bow down in prayer. As we lifted our two hands toward the sky in prayer, we prayed for this land, asking God to open the gates of heaven and let the rain of grace fall fully upon this earth, and for the Lord to come and pour down the rain of righteousness upon us. Following this, we had a time of prayer, dedicating ourselves and promising the Lord that we will obey His calling by participating in missions every year. We also prayed for the land of Silicon Valley we will return to, holding God's heart in our chests, and praying for the Vision Center that will raise up the worship of the next generation. We praise God who works and reveals His strength when we are weak. Even though we cannot do it, we praise the Lord who has already triumphed, and we praise the Lord who will fulfill His amazing plans and will as we hold onto the name of Jesus Christ and step forward in faith! There were some of us who already knew each other, and others who didn't even know each other's names or faces until two months ago. But in God's perfectly prepared timing, we became one in the Holy Spirit, bound together as co-workers to carry out the entrusted work. We had a time to bless and pray for each other." May your life be one that cannot live without the Lord; may your life be one that cannot survive without the Lord's grace. May the Lord carry you and guide you, and may you live a life dwelling under the shadow of His wings."
We prayed that our lives would be filled with God's grace and His compelling fellowship, lives that are overflowing with the Holy Spirit who never leaves... We earnestly desire lives accompanied by the grace of the Lord being a lamp to our feet, illuminating the path we must take. (그러면 갑자기 환자가 되)We took a break after the worship session. We finally started charging our phones, which were practically useless because there was no signal. Mostly just turned them on to take pictures, though, haha.
The adapter is huge and the outlet was at the ceiling and looked suspiciously like an IV drip... While we were taking a break with some snacks we brought all the way from the us,서로 서로 사진도 찍어주며 마나우스로 계속해서 가고 있습니다.we took photos of each other took turns and were headed to Manaus. But at some point, it started getting darker and darker. Was the sun setting, or was the weather getting cloudy? The boat seemed to rock a little, and then an unusual wind began to blow. The Amazon is definitely a river... but I started wondering why I could feel ocean waves. Towards the increasingly rocking boat and the Amazon River that was starting to agitate more and more, we stretched out our hands and began to pray. We prayed to God, the Creator of the universe, the God who is bigger than the waves, to calm this river and wind. As we stretched out our hands and prayed toward the Amazon River, we experienced the amazing miracle of the tossing waves gradually calming down. But after a brief calm moment, a torrential downpour and storm-like winds began to blow. I couldn't capture it all in photos, but the boat rocked so hard that two life jackets stored on the boat fell overboard, and the chairs we were sitting on shook so much that our bodies were moving with them. Is this how the disciples felt on the Sea of Galilee, terrified and looking for Jesus during the storm? As the situation worsened, what we could do—and what we had to do—was not to tremble in fear, but to kneel before God, who is greater than any situation, plead in prayer, and praise the God who is the Master of all creation and the Creator with awe and reverence." Even when fierce waves come toward me, I will soar with the Lord. In the midst of the storm, my soul will calmly look to the Lord."
"As the waters cover the sea, the acknowledgment of the glory of the Lord will fill the whole earth, as the waters cover the sea."
"There is power in the blood of the Lord, I believe in His blood. The precious blood of the Lord, the Lamb."
"Let us pray together, come before the Lord, kneel down. The Lord who shows mercy. Lift two hands toward heaven, let the gates of heaven open and the rain of grace fill this land, until finally the Lord comes and pours the rain of righteousness upon us." Brother Jongwoo and Sister Eunsol, who said they were thinking of the string trio playing until the very end in the movie Titanic, thinking they would meet the Lord carrying their guitars like this... The boat rocking in the strong winds, which doesn't really translate well in photos... but I think this picture probably expresses it best, haha ^_ㅜ황목사님 절대 겁에 질리신거 아닙니다. Pastor Hwang is absolutely not terrified. He is not holding onto the ceiling because he's scared. Time just slipped away in prayer and worship, but as the Manaus port safely came into view, our voices grew louder and our dancing more energetic, offering up praises of joy and gratitude to the Lord! Lol. Our hearts were so full of thanks that we couldn't help but break into a dance of joy! Praise be to God, who steered us safely through the storm and kept us completely protected under the shelter of His wings! Can you feel the immense gratitude on our faces for finally stepping foot on solid ground after pushing through those strong winds? Haha. Nothing but gratitude, gratitude, and more gratitude! Hallelujah!
Dragging our wind-and-rain-soaked bodies, we barely managed to get on the bus. Normally, getting on a bus with the AC blasting would have made us cheer, 'This is heaven!' but this time was a major exception... :')
Seeing ourselves pulling out jackets and throwing on hoodies because we were cold in 80°F (27°C) weather—a temperature where we'd usually be sweating and begging for AC—makes me realize we've completely adapted to the Amazon climate over the last four days, haha. After dinner, we gathered at Dongsan Church in Manaus to set up for tomorrow's VBS and medical ministries. Though our bodies were still swaying from the lingering seasickness we caught on that storm-tossed boat, we cheerfully took on our tasks in small groups. For the sake of one another, for the young souls God will send our way tomorrow, and for the Lord who will be worshiped and glorified through this work—we united our hearts, swiftly wrapped up the preparations, and headed to our lodging. It has been quite a long day.
From street evangelism under the blazing sun, in humidity so heavy that just standing outside left us drenched in sweat; to expecting a smooth ride to Manaus along the usually calm Amazon River, only to find ourselves caught in a fierce storm with crashing waves, where the line between life and death crossed our minds more than once—it was a truly grueling, harrowing day. And yet, it was also a day overflowing with profound gratitude and joy. When we humbly fell to our knees in the name of Jesus before Jehovah God—the Master of every circumstance and the Sovereign Ruler of all creation—we were granted the grace to witness the miraculous power of our King's name being proclaimed and fulfilled. He showed us, deeply and clearly, that we are not doing this because we are capable. He made us realize that there is absolutely nothing we can accomplish by our own strength.
But He didn't show us this to leave us in despair over our powerlessness. Rather, when we confessed our weakness and cried out the Lord’s name, stepping forward in faith that trusts solely in the power of His name, He poured down a rain of grace. He allowed us to experience firsthand that the God who reveals and accomplishes His mighty works through someone as weak as me is indeed my God and my Father. Remembering the overwhelming grace God poured out on us in the Amazon riverside villages, we earnestly desire to embrace our upcoming ministry in Manaus with that same gratitude. As our physical conditions become a little more comfortable, please continue to pray with us: that our hearts will not grow complacent. Pray that we will not let our spiritual guard down, but will constantly seek God’s heart, standing before Him poor in spirit. Pray that we may become vessels who completely fulfill the purpose for which He sent us, perfectly aligning with His very own heart. See you tomorrow!
